Stockholm August 2010

It is with enormous pleasure that Automobilhistoriska klubben has been given the honour to host the FIVA World Rally 2011. Automobilhistoriska klubben is the oldest veteran car club in Sweden, founded in 1950. It all started with a group of 18 enthusiastic gentlemen, who wanted to preserve and save distinguished vehicles for the future.

Sad to say quite a lot of cars were destroyed, but some were saved in the nick of time. The club started in 1957 to edit a periodical publication – Autohistorica – with high-class technical and historical articles. Automobilhistoriska klubben has today 1500 member with nearly 5000 vehicles.

The last time we had the honour to arrange a FIVA World Rally was in June 1983. At that time 65 vehicles participated and in a week drove from Gothenburg to Stockholm. The participants appreciated the arrangements and the roads chosen from the start to finish. We sincerely hope to repeat that achievement in the Rally of 2011.

Sweden offers a lot of small beautiful roads, winding through mostly unspoiled countryside of woods and lakes. All the major roads are coated with asphalt, but some of the minor roads will be coated with gravel. The route will follow minor asphalt-coated roads south of Lake Vättern towards Stockholm and along the north of the lake on the way back to Gothenburg.

This time of the year, at the end of June, Sweden usually shows of its best side. It is not a coincidence that many people from Denmark and Germany have bought summerhouses in the south of Sweden.
